Why I Started NEXT.FRL
If there's one thing I've learned over the past year, it's this:
The North is full of inspiring people, welcoming communities and incredible local initiatives. Yet somehow, many students and young professionals never discover them.
Every year, ambitious people move to Northern Netherlands to study, work and build a future. They arrive with excitement and curiosity, but many leave without ever truly feeling connected to the region or realising how many opportunities exist around them.
At the same time, local businesses, entrepreneurs and communities are looking for exactly those people.
The connection is already there.
It just hasn't been made visible.
That's why I started NEXT.FRL.
Not as another news platform.
Not as another student website.
But as a place where stories, people and places come together.
A place that helps someone discover a local coffee bar where conversations begin. A creative entrepreneur building something meaningful. A student community that makes a new city feel like home. Or simply an opportunity they might never have found otherwise.
Over the past weeks, that idea has slowly started becoming reality.
We've shared our first stories, met inspiring founders and highlighted places where people genuinely connect.
At the same time, we're building The NEXT Network — a growing guide to the people, places and communities that make Northern Netherlands a great place to live, study and grow.
Not every place on the map is a partner. Some are simply places we believe deserve to be discovered. Places that create conversations, inspire ideas or help people feel at home.
Because that's what NEXT.FRL is really about.
Helping people discover where they belong.
This is only the beginning.
In the months ahead, we'll continue sharing stories, expanding The NEXT Network and building meaningful collaborations with the people shaping the future of the North.
I hope NEXT.FRL becomes more than a website.
I hope it becomes a place people trust.
